Sisterhood, Scholarship, & Service On Display At Holiday Food Giveaway

A holiday meal drive-by giveaway took place Saturday at Roberto Clemente Leadership Academy. It was sponsored by a sorority. Each member was clad in gold and blue. But this was no ordinary sorority, and no ordinary holiday event.

All of them are members of the Iota Chi Sigma Chapter, the New Haven chapter of the



Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, an international organization founded in 1922 for collegiate and professional women based on the tenets of sisterhood, scholarship, and service.


The event, billed ​“100 meals for 100 families,” kicked off the 100th anniversary of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, according to New Haven chapter Chair Pamela Washington. The giveaway was supported by a $10,000 grant to assist Covid-impacted families from the Yale Community for New Haven Fund.
